"The Solar Eclipse" Baltic Porter
Introducing a special dark beer to celebrate the August 21, 2017 Total Solar Eclipse. In the 18th and 19th centuries, London Porter was the most popular style of beer in the world. English brewers made a stronger version for export to Ireland (which evolved into Irish Stout) and more was sailed up through the Baltic Sea and across land to Czarist Russia (which evolved into Russian Imperial Stout.) But many opportunist middlemen along that Northern voyage started brewing their own imitations which resulted in an unique style called Baltic Porter. Their grainbills resembled original Porter except bittered with Bohemian Saazer-type hops and cold-fermented with Danish lager yeast. Dark and roasty but not burnt. Fruity and floral, hints of liquorice and black pepper. Medium body with strong but well-concealed alcohol. Complex but smooth with a refreshingly clean finish. Your drink of choice when the sun don’t shine.
