Rye Pale Ale- GABF Gold Medal Winner 2014

Backstory: The Rye was one of the three beers we opened the pub with and well, it by all means has a massive following. In the year 2014, it's the beer that put Civil Life on the map when we won a GABF Gold with it. That's Dylan and Brandon, our venerable brewers at the time, accepting the award. Not pictured is our co-founder Mike, who contributed to the recipe. We were exceptionally honored to be recognized among the nations top brewers and also to bring a nice medal back home to St. Louis where we have a most incredible beer scene. The medal now hangs in our pub on the neck of a small stuffed animal moose that a customer gave us. Not bad at all for the first time we ever entered a brewing contest. Hopefully it isn't our last medal!

This isn't a little Pale Ale and it isn't the biggest of Pale Ales but it's our Pale Ale and it's big but grounded by a strong malt backbone. Familiar pale ale traits plus rich graininess, subtle spice and crisp mouthfeel from the rye, lots of caramel, black pepper, pine cones, and grapefruit zest with a well-rounded bittersweet finish. Pick it up and run with it, act like you stole it... as long as you paid for it we don't care.
For those desiring more details:
ABV: 4.5%
IBU: 66
COLOUR: clear deep amber with fluffy white foam and lace
BJCP STYLE: 21B. Specialty: Rye IPA? It’s basically 18B. American Pale Ale + rye, but there’s not an exact category for that.
INGREDIENTS: English Golden Promise and Maris Otter pale malts, caramel malt, ≈20% malted and unmalted rye, American C-hops and yeast
