Q. DO WE SHIP OUT OF TOWN. |
The following email was mistakenly sent to Mike at Stlhops.com. Mike is a champion of beer in St. Louis and his web-site is the go to source for up to date tap information, St. Louis micro-brewery news and is also a great forum for the St. Louis Beer Community. Email 1. From Tim to Mike Mike, My name is Tim, I had the pleasure of drinking your Munich Dunkel brew the other day, which I enjoyed very much. I have a question please, I noticed from your web site Civil has a few different brews, but noticed there is no option to purchase, and ship your brews. Being a beer drinker from out of state what are my option of purchasing your brews? Please reply. Tim Email 2. From Mike to Tim I don't work for Civil Life. But, I'll happily put you in touch with the owner, Jake. Email 3. From Me to Mike Mike unbeknownst to you I made you director of consumption for the Civil Life during the holiday party! I'll reach out to Tim. Cheers and thanks, Jake Email 4: From Mike to Me That is an awesome title and I will do my job most diligently. THIS DID NOT HAPPEN AND THIS EMAIL IS NON EXISTENT. WHAT I SHOULD HAVE SAID TO MIKE: WELL HOW ‘BOUT NOT SKIRTING YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AND RESPOND TO TIM’S EMAIL. Instead Email 4: From Me to Tim Hey Tim, First of all thanks for your email about our Dunkel. It mistakenly went to Mike Sweeney at Stlhops.com and that is entirely okay as I have deemed him our new "Director of Consumption." We unfortunately do not have in our possession one of those bottling thingys to package our beer and our only option right now is draft. I suppose I could put a few stamps on a keg and see if the the post office would take it but it is unfortunately unlikely as I have heard there are some regulations about shipping beer. I also probably would have to ship with a lot of those styrofoam peanuts and that would go against our environmental policy here. I suppose I could invest in some of the biodegradable foam peanuts instead however they do not work as well and it may be cost prohibitive as we would have to ship in a much larger container and we would end up with a huge box to contain both the keg and all those biodegradable peanuts. So I am sorry to report, that the best way to have our beers will be in the St. Louis area and that will likely remain that way for the next several years (or as long as we can stay in business). Please make yourself known next time you are in town and we'll direct some products towards your liver. Perhaps, our beers will become good friends with you over the years and even though you may not be able to invite them over to your house, you won't mind making a special trip to St. Louis to say hello. On behalf of the dunkel and all three of us here....Cheers! Jake Hafner The Civil Life Brewing Company | ![]()

- Q. Do we allow bus brewery tour groups?
A. Yes, Not really, Maybe....sort of.

From nice patron to me:
Q.
Please be forewarned that about a dozen of us have rented a party bus for Friday February 17th for an afternoon brewery crawl. We are leaving Schlafly at 1pm for UC, Buffalo, 6 Row, Square One, 4 Hands, and Civil Life. Not ideal for you folks that you are last on the list (due to the 4pm open). It is possible we may be a bit boisterous by then, but many of them will be first timers to Civil Life and are looking forward to the visit.

Thanks for your email.
As far as Friday goes, I would like to offer a great opportunity to your group for us to be one of your earlier stops on the brewery tour. I would be more than happy to open early for your group (anytime between 2 and 4). We have had some unfortunate luck with brewery tour groups (not all of them... but we are hoping to not press our luck any more and therefore "no whammies, no whammies".) It is a great way to see all of the new breweries but with all the new breweries we have found that some people don't seem to be seeing the later stops. In addition, our Civil way to drink encourages moderate consumption of low to moderate a.b.v. beers. We'd enjoy the opportunity to send you slowly on your way to boisterous rather than send boisterous on to boisterous plus. We are also having more parents/families from time to time that are popping in with their kids when they pick up growlers to go or to have a pint and soda/sandwiches with their kids and it has set a nice tone for our little pub. We have also begun to accumulate some really nice chill Friday after work regulars.
My apologies for being unaccommodating/accommodating and of course for being both wishy and washy, but after years behind the bar I like to look for better ways to make all of our nights better.
Cheers and let me know if we can make this work!
Jake

The following are a list of questions that pop up in my email box and I thought it would be good to show our responses to everyone in case there are more of you out there in the internets that have questions but maybe don’t feel like sending an email. All last names have been omitted, even mine and as always we appreciate your emails and for taking the time to reach out to us.
