The Snugs Are Now Snuggier (Day 35)

Snugs and a snub.

Irish Inspired!

So I was reading the internets and stumbled upon a review of ours which stated that our place was not very well thought out.  That we were just a couple of guys doing our best. I had a good laugh out of it mostly because I spent a lot of time thinking about it and mostly because he was right, we are a couple of guys doing our best.  In fact, if you ask me about any particular spot or design issue I can tell you very clearly what it’s influences were and how we (myself, Dylan, Mike, Shamus, Jim etc.) came up with the idea. I definitely didn’t spend 7 months in Europe sitting in a McDonalds contemplating why their layout was different than Starbucks.  I guess I found it funny because the person reviewing the place also noted the lack of tables in the small Irish inspired snugs.  Snugs inspired by the great pubs of Galway, Kilkenny, Wexford, Dublin, Belfast, Drogheda, Derry and Cork. He was right again.

But the only reason he was right was simply because tables cost money and we unfortunately ran out of it.  Then I got some more.  Then ran out again. Then got some more, ran out and well you get the idea, we got some more and now, I am happy to note the tables have became yet another thing we have finally checked off of our to do list.   Like many things in our emerging pub we just couldn’t open with every thing in place.  Turns out (as stated before) opening a brewery is pretty darn expensive and a good 20% more than I had expected even after I had expected 30% more (fact check unavailable...percentages may be reversed...or just outright wrong) than my original business plan.  I do have one of those business degree thingys after all.

So what looks like three missing tables to a guy in a critical review on a punked website looks like 700 dollars to me, a guy who floated over $35,000 on credit cards at one point so I wouldn’t have to take on investors.   Funny how, now I won’t let you use your credit card here.

Odd how life works,  but odd is not how the little rooms feel now thanks to our tables.

Cheers and come one down with a few friends and slip into a snug.

Hello earthlings. I have been sent here to open a brewery. I hope you have time over the next year to check in from time to time and see our progress (or lack there of at times).

I look forward to helping you come along for the ride through this blog. For me, there is no better feeling than creating a place and a product that becomes part of peoples lives. I am focused, immensely passionate and hopeful that each of you one day will toast “To the Civil Life.”
